The Meridian football team rolled to a 25-0 win Tuesday, Nov. 10, at Port Townsend in a Class 1A tri-district playoff game to earn a trip to the Class 1A State Playoffs.
Running back BoDean Norris rushed for two touchdowns (6 and 4 yards) in the second half and John Murphy had a 1-yard run in the first quarter for the Trojans.
Mitchell Tripp had an 86-yard touchdown reception in the second quarter from Tait Slesk, who was 13 of 27 for 241 yards on the game.
The unfortunate news for Meridian was that Tripp injured his foot on the TD run and didn't play the rest of the game. The extent of his injury will be determined Wednesday.
The Trojans' defense controlled Port Townsend the entire game, holding Redskins to 32 yards rushing and pulling down three interceptions. The Meridian offense won the first-down battle 18-6.
Meridian did have a bit of a penalty problem, setting a dubious school record with 17 penalties for 129 yards and lost 3 of 4 fumbles.
The Trojans (8-3) earned the tri-district No. 4 seed and will play unbeaten Montesano at 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 14, at Tumwater.
