The Meridian volleyball team cruised through the first round of the Class 1A Tri-District Tournament on Thursday, Nov. 5, defeating Bellevue Christian 25-20, 25-19, 25-15 at Bellevue.
Meridian advances to a winner-to-state match against either Seattle Christian or Overlake.
Bre Park led the Trojans with 11 kills. Aimee Hofbauer, Dani Plagerman and Naomi Eissinger each added seven kills.
"Our strength is in our defense, but this was probably our best offensive game of the year," Meridian coach Breanne Brandt said in a phone interview.
Maddy Oltman led Meridian in assists with 36, and collectively, the team combined for 69 digs and 11 aces.
"The girls played awesome, they had heart and confidence and never gave up," Brandt said.
Meridian plays its next game at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 7, at King's High School.
With one day to prepare for the next round of the tri-district tournament and with a state berth on the line, Brandt said her squad is getting ready for Saturday by working on team strategy.
"We're just focusing on fine tuning and working on our offense," she said.
