A trio of former Bellingham High runners helped the Seattle University cross country teams to a pair of strong finishes at the Great West Conference Championships on Saturday, Oct. 31, at the Bronx, N.Y.
Sophomore Matthew McClement earned second team All-Great West honors with an 11th-place finish in the meet, posting a time of 26 minutes, 53.49 seconds on the 8-kilometer course. He was the top finishing Seattle U men's runner and helped the Redhawks finish second as a team. His strong run came only one week after turning in an impressive 25:17 at the Beaver Classic at Corvallis, Ore.
Bellingham alum Celeste Cassidy also was the top finisher for the Redhawks women's team at the conference championships, placing 18th in 24:24.32, while Rachel Yorkston finished 24th in 25:00.33. Their runs helped Seattle U place fourth as a team.
