With a chance to earn a spot in the 2A Northwest District Volleyball Tournament, Blaine couldn't come through with a win when they needed it most.

The Borderites, who were once again with out hitter Libby Moore, lost to Granite Falls 25-12, 25-21, 25-23 in a play-in game on the road. The loss ended Blaine's season with a 7-8 record.

"We totally did not play the way we can play," Blaine coach Sheli Moore said in a phone interview.

Libby Moore's absence due to an ankle injury was eased somewhat by the return of Taylor Trueblood, the team's libero who missed two matches last week after hurting her injury. Trueblood and senior Jordan Oldham played well, Moore said.

But Blaine came out flat, losing by a large margin in the first set. But the Borderites rallied in the second and third sets, but couldn't quite pull through, Moore said.

Blaine showed some inexperience in their final match, the coach said, but also some talent that should help the team next season.
