PREP GIRLS' CROSS COUNTRY: Ferndale to send two runners to Class 3A State Championships

Ferndale's Lee George and Megan Morrison qualified for the Class 3A State Championship Cross Country Meet after top-10 finishes on Saturday, Oct. 31, at the Class 3A Northwest District Meet at South Whidbey High School.

George, a senior, finished second overall in the boys' race in 16 minutes, 42.96 seconds. Boys' winner Joe Hanson of Meadowdale finished in 16:27.15.

The Ferndale boys teams placed fourth overall, finishing two spots away from a team state qualification. The top two boys' teams heading to state was first-place Everett (49 points) and second-place Shorecrest (60). The Golden Eagles finished with 102 points.

Also finishing in the top 50 for Ferndale were James Underwood (17th), Connor Jungkuntz (21st), Jake Catrain (30th), Logan Junkuntz (32nd), Lucas Pitsch (41st) and Isaac Robison (42nd).

In the girls' race, Morrison placed eight overall in 20:41.11 to qualify for state. The Ferndale girls' team placed seventh overall.

Glacier Peak controlled much of the girls' race, winning the team title with 16 points and placing five of the top six runners, including winner Amy-Eloise Neale (18:49.19).

Other Ferndale finishers were Makalee Latta (20th), Elysee Ledford (40th), Karolin Anders (44th), Sabrina Delzell (48th), Grace Burlingame (50th) and Lauren Mittelstaedt (53rd).

The Class 3A State Championship is next week in Pasco.
