A Lynden man was in serious condition Monday morning following a car crash on Aldrich Road over the weekend, according to a Harborview Medical Center spokeswoman.

Andrew D. Vanmersbergen, 21, suffered a broken neck and internal injuries after he lost control of the 1989 Chevrolet Camaro he was driving on Aldrich, just north of West Hemmi Road, and crashed into a utility pole and a tree, said Washington State Patrol Trooper Brandon Lee.

The crash occurred at about 1:10 a.m. Saturday, April 4.

The State Patrol was investigating the cause of the crash Monday morning. Alcohol may have been a factor, Lee said. It is unknown whether Vanmersbergen was wearing his seatbelt.
