Soak up the sounds as music comes alive this summer

Summer is a splendid time for local music lovers as festivals galore offer up music from classical to the blues. Take your pick and take a listen to some fantastic music this summer.

Bellingham Festival of Music

The festival will feature Beethoven’s classics and will run from this Saturday until July 20. Ticket prices range from $32 to $50 for each concert. For more information, go online at www.bellinghamfestival.org.

Blaine Jazz Festival

The festival, which is also an educational opportunity for many teens, will offer concerts from Monday to July 12. For more information about tickets and schedules, go online at www.pacificartsassoc.org

Marrowstone

Western Washington University will be full of young musicians from July 27 to Aug. 10 for the Marrowstone program, with concerts starting July 31. For more information, go online at marrowstone.syso.org

Mount Baker Rhythm and Blues Festival

The festival will take place Aug. 1 to Aug. 3 at the Deming Logging Show Grounds. Day tickets are $40 in advance, $50 at the gate. For more information, go online at www.boomkak.com/bakerblues/index.html

Subdued Stringband Jamboree

If jamming is your thing, then clear your calendar on Aug. 8 and 9 for the jamboree. The event will include a variety of local musicians performing at the Deming Logging Show Grounds.
