One of the best combinations of words in the English language has to be three-day weekend.
And that's exactly what Labor Day has given us. Forget about the labor part, and use that extra day to take in local art and music.
Here are five things to do to make the weekend even more entertaining.
ANACORTES JAZZ FESTIVAL
Head down to Anacortes to see artists ranging from Pearl Django to the Seattle Repertory Jazz Orchestra. The festival starts with a gala on Friday Aug. 29 and continues with a music-filled weekend until Monday Sept. 1. For more ticket and schedule information, go online at www.anacortes.org.
BUMBERSHOOT
This three-day music festival, which runs from Saturday Aug. 30 to Monday Sept. 1, is worth the drive down to Seattle. Local legend Death Cab for Cutie is one of many bands to rock the Bumbershoot stage, including The Offspring, Stone Temple Pilots, Beck and Band of Horses. For information on times and tickets, go online at www.bumbershoot.com.
LUMMI ISLAND ARTISTS STUDIO TOUR
Take the ferry over to Lummi Island and check out where the artists do their work. The tour is free and runs from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 30 and Sunday Aug. 31. For a map of studios and a list of artists, go online at www.lummi-island.com.
DANCE ON TAYLOR DOCK
The Concerts in the Park series is going out with style with the Dance on Taylor Dock 6 p.m. to sunset Saturday, Aug. 30. The concert is free and will have music by Jon Parry and Joe Paquin.
NOOKSACK BLUES FESTIVAL
