Whatcom Educational Credit Union recently donated $12,450 to several local non-profits.

The groups included Allied Arts Education Project, Assistance League of Bellingham, Communities in Schools of Whatcom County, Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Services of Whatcom County, Everson Garden Club, Ferndale High School, Interfaith Coalition-Friendly Visitors, Lighthouse Mission - Agape Home, NAMI of Whatcom County, Old Town Christian Ministries - Amy's Place, and the Opportunity Council.

The Social Responsibility Committee oversees WECU's monetary donations and participation in volunteer projects. WECU's Social Responsibility Committee supports education, health and community-related projects, actively seeking those that address acute community concerns such as violence, homelessness and drug abuse.

Requests for monetary donations must be made through an application process. The next submission deadline is Nov. 21. Applications for donation and information about the Social Responsibility Committee are available on the WECU Web site, www.wecu.com.

With over 55,200 members, WECU is Whatcom County's largest member-owned, not for profit financial cooperative, serving all residents of Whatcom County.
