Columbus Day is marked Monday, Oct. 13, in the U.S., though few local businesses and offices will observe it by closing their doors. The exceptions are most banks and the U.S. Postal Service, which will be closed along with a few businesses. Some places with Canadian ties also might be closed, as Canadians will celebrate their thanksgiving Monday.

Here is a list of services and their status Monday:

City of Bellingham and Whatcom County government offices - open.

Bellingham parking meters - enforced.

Bellingham and Whatcom County library branches - open.

Public schools, colleges and universities - open.

Postal service - no delivery Monday.

Services

Banks - most closed. Wells Fargo is open.

Garbage - SSC picking up on regular schedule.

Whatcom Transportation Authority - buses on regular schedule.

The Bellingham Herald - offices open, regular newspaper delivery.

Retail/Entertainment

Bellis Fair - open regular hours.

Grocery stores - open, including Trader Joe's and the Community Food Co-op.

State liquor stores - open.

Movie theaters and video stores - open.
