Strong wind gusts early Tuesday morning, Oct. 7, caused scattered power outages throughout Whatcom County.

Tree limbs fell onto power lines on Maplewood Avenue in Bellingham, knocking out power to about 1,600 customers from midnight to 1:30 a.m., said Dorothy Bracken, Puget Sound Energy spokeswoman.

In Ferndale, tree limbs caught in power lines knocked out power to about 1,700 customers from 4 a.m. to 5 a.m., Bracken said.

Smaller outages, which affected about 10 t0 20 customers each, occurred around midnight in Bellingham and Everson, Bracken said.

Wind gusts were expected to reach about 45 mph overnight, according to the National Weather Service.
