Editor's note: The Port of Bellingham and city of Bellingham have joined forces to redevelop 137 waterfront acres that the port acquired from Georgia-Pacific West Inc. in 2005 as well as an additional 83 acres of waterfront property. This weekly update, provided by the port, will help keep citizens informed about the process.
ROAD GRIDS DISCUSSED
Port of Bellingham and city staff will offer information about various road grids being considered for the main area of The Waterfront District at the next meeting of the Waterfront Advisory Group.
City staff also will provide updates on the newly formed Bellingham Public Development Authority and the city's shoreline master plan.
The meeting will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 8 in the Harbor Center Conference Room.
Port staff will give an update about the environmental cleanup and demolition work on the waterfront. And Port Environmental Director Mike Stoner will discuss progress on the environmental impact statement, which looks at potential impacts of waterfront redevelopment for 20 to 30 years.
The advisory group is expected to follow the meeting with an in-depth discussion of road alternatives.
Each meeting begins with time for public comment. Advisory group meetings are videotaped and air on the city's BTV10 station. A schedule is on the city's Web site, www.cob.org.
