Visiting Anacortes gave Mount Vernon a little bit of a scare in the season opener for both teams, but playoff-hopeful Bulldogs came through to earn a 20-16 victory.

The Seahawks, who won only three games last season, built a 16-7 lead in the third quarter.

But Mount Vernon scored the game's final 13 points to get the win.

Bulldogs quarterback Ray Walser scored the go-ahead touchdown in the third quarter on a 43-yard run. Walser finished with a team-high 50 yards rushing on 20 carries and also passed for 133 yards.

Colin Findley-Meier also had an 83-year kickoff return for a touchdown in the first quarter for Mount Vernon.
