Two hikers were released from St. Joseph Hospital after being rescued from Mount Baker's North Ridge by a Naval Air Station Whidbey Island crew.
Dan Lord, 46, and Andrej Dobos, 37, both of Vancouver, B.C., were rescued at about 3 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 2, after being spotted by U.S. Customs and Border Protection helicopter pilot Craig Miller.
Lord had suffered a severely broken ankle after falling 20-feet from a vertical ice wall at about 9,500 feet above sea level, said George Ratayczak, Whatcom County sheriff's deputy and search and rescue coordinator. The two men had climbed down to about the 8,500-foot level to await rescue. Both were treated for hypothermia, Ratayczak said.
Lord and Dobos were reported missing after failing to return to base camp after heading out for a two- or three-day climb, Miller said.
