LYNDEN - A public hearing to discuss the possibility of repealing the city's 41-year ban on Sunday liquor sales is scheduled for 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 6, at City Hall.
In August, Mayor Jack Louws assigned the public safety and community development committees to look into a citizen's request to begin a discussion on repealing the ban.
Lynden is the only city in Whatcom County with a ban on Sunday liquor sales.
Under the ban, in place since 1967, no restaurant, grocery store, convenience store or any other licensed business may sell, deliver or serve liquor between 12:01 a.m. Sunday and 6 a.m. the following Monday.
On Tuesday, Sept. 2, the committees told City Council they had not received enough feedback from the community and recommended a well-advertised public hearing, Lynden City Council member Doug Adelstein said.
"We don't have enough input yet," he said. "And we know it's there."
