Irrespective of politics, I am deeply offended by the letter to the editor published Sunday, Aug. 31, that characterized businessmen as greedy individuals "(whose) goal is the acquisition of wealth at the expense of those of us who are neither lawyers or businessmen."

Consider the owners of a small retail business who invest in product and put in long hours hoping the public will come in and buy. Consider the contractor that bids the highway job invests in extremely expensive equipment, high insurance, and must deal with the variable cost of materials and weather hoping to make a profit on the road he is building. Consider the restaurant owner; consider the car repair shop owner, etc.

Consider the hard working people that invest their time and money into the gamble that is the business of providing goods and services for you. Consider the many businesspeople you've encountered this week and consider your position.
