Bellingham firefighters will be fighting something that's not burning Thursday, Aug. 28, and Friday, Aug. 29 - muscular dystrophy.
Firefighters will be at the intersection of Meridian Street and Bakerview Road from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. those days to accept donations from passing motorists.
Drivers can drop their dollars into boots the firefighters will be holding. Their goal is to raise $18,000 to fund research, clinical services and the purchase of medical equipment needed to fight muscular dystrophy.
Last year, firefighters raised $16,000. The annual "Fill the Boot" event is part of a partnership between the Bellingham Fire Department and the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
