It's time for parents to celebrate and students to groan - the first day of school is just around the corner.

School starts for some Whatcom County students next week, with the rest beginning the days following Labor Day.

If you haven't registered for school yet, be sure to do so this week. Generally, only students who are new to the district need to register.

Students attending the new Wade King Elementary School who are also new to the Bellingham School District can register at the school, 2155 Yew St. Road.

Students attending the new Cascadia Elementary School who are also new to the Ferndale School District can register at the district office, 6041 Vista Drive, or at North Bellingham Elementary School, 5275 Northwest Road.

Remember, if you're registering a child for kindergarten, they must turn 5 before Monday, Sept. 1, and have all the required immunizations.

Schools start:

  • Tuesday, Aug. 26: Lynden Christian Schools.

  • Wednesday, Aug. 27: Blaine, Lynden and Nooksack Valley school districts.

  • Tuesday, Sept. 2: Bellingham, Meridian and Mount Baker school districts; Bellingham Christian School, St. Paul's Academy, Fairhaven Girls' School, Explorations Academy.

  • Wednesday, Sept. 3: Ferndale School District; Assumption Catholic School, Whatcom Day Academy, Whatcom Hills Waldorf School.

  • Thursday, Sept. 4: Bayside Montessori School (first day for all students).

  • Monday, Sept. 22: Bellingham Technical College, Whatcom Community College.

  • Wednesday, Sept. 24: Western Washington University.
