Sedro-Woolley's City Council will allow Secret Harbor, which houses troubled boys, to purchase a group home in the city.
The council approved the purchase at its Aug. 13 meeting, Mayor Mike Anderson said.
The group home will house six boys, ages 10 to 17, who have mental illness or drug and alcohol addiction.
The Anacortes-based non-profit had purchased property in 2005 to build a 25-bed facility on Mosquito Lake Road, between Acme and Deming, in Whatcom County.
It abandoned that plan and sold the property in 2007 after neighbors, the Mount Baker School District and the Whatcom County Sheriff's Office opposed it.
Instead, the organization pursued creating smaller group homes, including the one in Sedro-Woolley and in Burlington, Anacortes and Mount Vernon.
