Races for on-the-ground volunteers for local political parties are being decided in the Tuesday, Aug. 19, primary, with 99 races for precinct officers.

Both Republican and Democratic party precinct committee officer positions are up for grabs. Precinct committee officers are the neighborhood-level volunteers who help organize the area where they live on behalf of their respective party. They also help to elect party officers and, on the Democratic Party side, now help nominate candidates for other elective offices per state party rules.

Find election result information for the precinct committee positions by visiting the Whatcom County Auditor's Office Web site at www.whatcomcounty.us/auditor.

Write-in candidates likely will not show up online, however, for perhaps up to a week, said Pete Griffin, county elections supervisor. The Auditor's Office will wait to make sure all ballots are in and write-ins are all counted before posting, he said.
