Autumn is coming early with a powerful and wet Pacific storm expected to bring significant rainfall and winds through Wednesday, Aug. 20.

A colder air mass will follow Wednesday night, possibly triggering late-night thunderstorms, according to the National Weather Service.

The heavy rains could raise water levels in small creeks and create ponds of water in low-lying areas, the National Weather Service warned.

By Thursday, Aug. 21, snow levels are expected to be in the 6,000- to 6,500-foot range. People who plan on hiking or camping in the mountains should prepare for fall-like weather.
