A strong Pacific frontal system means heavy rain for Whatcom County on Tuesday night, Aug. 19, and Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service.
The weather service forecasts up to 11/2 inches of rain along the coast with 1 to 2 inches likely in the Cascades.
The interior lowlands will get less rain, the service said, but most areas are likely to receive at least 3/4 inch of rain.
A cooler air mass will move into the area after the cold front passes Wednesday morning, dropping the snow level to around 7,000 feet Wednesday night and 6,000 on Thursday, the weather service said.
Those planning to hike or camp in the mountains should be prepared for fall-like weather.
