The owner of Bellingham-based Cascadia Cabs is investigating the cause of the Wednesday, Aug. 6, fatal pedicab accident in downtown Seattle.
"We're working to get to the bottom of this," said Ryan Hashegan, who started Cascadia Cabs in Bellingham in 2007. "Our hearts go out to all of those impacted in this incident."
Hashegan said the crash was not caused by mechanical failure, but wouldn't say what caused it because Seattle Police are still investigating.
A Cascadia pedicab went through a red light and was hit by a van at the intersection of Cedar Street and Western Avenue, according to The Seattle Post-Intelligencer.
The driver and two passengers, a 60-year-old man and his wife, were thrown from the cab. The van ran over the man, who died at the scene. His wife, in her 60s, and the 23-year-old driver were taken to Harborview Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
Hashegan has four pedicabs operating in Bellingham, as well as in Seattle, Vancouver, B.C., Portland and Eugene, Ore.
