The 40th Legislative District is fortunate to have several good candidates running for state senator. After attending forums where candidates that preferred the Democratic Party presented their views and answered questions, I will vote for Kevin Ranker for the following reasons:

? He has relevant government experience and a record of accomplishment. He was elected to the San Juan County Board of Commissioners in 2004 where he worked with local citizens and state federal and tribal leaders on the San Juan Initiative which was able to raise resources for local environmental planning and protection.

? He can articulate his positions clearly, a quality that is essential for a legislator.

? While talking to him prior to a forum he had creative ideas on how to combine educational opportunities and environmental protection in relation to waterfront restoration.

The people of the 40th Legislative District are fortunate to have an outstanding candidate for the Washington state Legislature. I will vote for Kevin Ranker and hope you will also.

Judy Teresa
