closeLeadership Whatcom is accepting as many as 30 participants for a course running from September to June 2009.
The goal is to develop skillful, informed and collaborative community leaders, according to Elizabeth Jennings, executive director of the Whatcom Coalition for Healthy Communities.
Participants in Leadership Whatcom come from business, nonprofit, government and education backgrounds. Participants divide into teams, identify a local need and partner with a community group on a short-term project to improve community health, Jennings said.
Tuition for the 10-month program is $1,200, with as much as $600 in scholarship money available based on need for early registrants.
