PREP TRACK: Ferndale, Squalicum do well at district meet

The usual suspects from the Ferndale girls’ track and field team earned their way to state with strong finishes at the Class 3A Northwest District meet on Friday at Shoreline Stadium.

Haley Locker won the 100 with a time of 12.44 seconds for the Golden Eagles and Chantel took second in the finals.

In the 200, Locker won the final with a time of 25.51 and Green was second again.

Green and Locker were also members of the 4x100 and 4x200 teams that won in the finals along with teammates Tanja Bjornnson and McKensie Clark.

Also for the Ferndale team, which took third place with a team score of 103.5, Bjornnson won the 100 hurdles with a time of 16.28 and the 300 hurdles with a time of 46.72.

The Squalicum girls took fifth place as a team with 80.5 points.

Sophie Curl won the 800 in a time of 2:19.52.

Curl also won the 1,600 in a time 5:08.40 and teammate Bronwyn Crossman took second.

The Shorecrest team won the meet with a score of 149.5.

SQUALICUM BOYS’ TAKES 3RD

The Squalicum boys’ track and field team took third place in the Class 3A Northwest District meet on Friday at Shoreline Stadium.

Nick Stackhouse was second in the 300 hurdles with a time of 40.95, Dzmitry Ryzhkou took second with a time of 2:00.39 and Stephen Foster earned a secondplace finish in the 400 with a time of 51.26.

Squalicum also advanced to state in the 4x400 relay with a second-place finish of 3:28.33. The team consists of Foster, Stackhouse, Matt Dale and Aldo LeVain.

Ferndale had no top 2 finishes on Friday and ended with a team score of 37.6 for a fifth-place finish.

Everett won the meet with a score of 174.6.
