Two local companies were recently recognized for work done on a marina project.
Washington Aggregates and Concrete Association recognized Bellingham Marine and Ferndale Ready Mix and Gravel for work done on Salpare Bay Marina, a 193-slip marina near Portland, Ore. The two companies received WACA’s Excellence in Concrete Award in the area of technical merit.
Salpare Bay Marina features Bellingham Marine’s Unifloat concrete floating docks finished with a stamped deck.
Working with concrete in dock construction requires a thorough understanding of the material’s properties, said Keith Korthuis of Ferndale Ready Mix and Gravel.
“To achieve consistent freeboard and platform stability, the concrete produced must be mixed and batched within extremely tight tolerances. Failure to do so will significantly affect the overall performance characteristics of the float,” said Korthuis.
Bellingham Marine produces Unifloat saltwater dock systems, Unideck freshwater dock systems and Unistack dry storage systems for marinas worldwide.
Ferndale Ready Mix and Gravel provides a variety of concrete mix designs along with sand and gravel products.
