SUMAS — A garage fire destroyed a restored race car and an RV camper at about 8:40 p.m. Wednesday.
The fire, which occurred at 3047 Halverstick Road, started in the car, but the cause is unknown, said Station 91 Fire Chief Jerry DeBruin of Whatcom County Fire District No. 14, who was first on the scene.
Sheetrock on the woodframed garage saved it from being completely destroyed in the fire, DeBruin said. A pickup truck and tools inside the garage were only partially damaged, he said.
Total damage is estimated at $50,000, and there were no injuries, DeBruin said.
