BELLINGHAM — Road crews expect to close Interstate 5 lanes through Bellingham this weekend to repair damaged and broken concrete panels, according to the state Department of Transportation.
That means drivers should be ready for delays of at least 30 minutes and back-ups for up to two miles.
The left lanes of north- and south-bound I-5 will close from 10 p.m. tonight to 6 a.m. Monday. The closures will occur between Samish Way and Sunset Drive.
The DOT urges drivers who use I-5 to travel before 8 a.m. and after 7 p.m. when there is less congestion.
The work is part of a $4.5 million project to replace 212 broken concrete panels, pave four rough ramps and smooth bumpy bridge transitions. More weekend-long closures are expected in coming weeks.
