The Lummi track and field team took eight athletes to the Class 2B/1B district track and field meet and seven will be moving on to the Northwest 1B bi-district championships on Saturday at Sedro-Woolley.

Sarah Brady won the 100 hurdles and 300 hurdles and was fourth in the javelin.

Lorissa Cultee took first in the discus and shot put and second in the javelin.

Amanda Humphreys was fourth in the 3200.

On the boys’ side, Nelson Montenegro was second in the discus, fifth in the javelin and fifth in the triple jump; Kody Dennis took fifth in the 800; Alex LeClair was third in the shot put; and Justin Zoller won the javelin and took fifth in the shot put.

Bi-district is Saturday at King’s.

BASEBALL

WISHKAH 4, LUMMI 3 (8)

The Lummi baseball team saw its season end after a 4-3 loss in eight innings to Wishkah at the Class 1B bi-district in Elma.

Blackhawks pitcher Carter Lopez (5-5) pitched the entire game, giving up five hits, walking one and striking out six.

Lummi coach Jim Sandusky said in a phone interview that the Blackhawks had their chances — leaving the bases loaded twice and two runners on two other times — but he was happy with the way the team played this season.

“We played a pretty good team and played pretty well. I was happy with the guy’s effort,” Sandusky said. “I think (this year’s success) just adds more excitement. We’ll just keep building (the program) as we go. It was a fun year.”

SOFTBALL

TAHOLAH 22, LUMMI 0 (5)

The Lummi softball season ended as it lost to Taholah 22-0 in five innings in a loser-out game at the Class 1B bi-district tournament in Elma.

Marisa Jones and Janita Bob both went 1 for 2 for the Blackhawks in the loss as Taholah pounded out 27 hits.

Kelsey Jefferson (2-3) took the loss. Lummi (5-5) was without three starters who were participating in the 1B district track and field meet.
