Lynden Christian led local golfers at the Class 1A sub-district boys’ golf tournament at Avalon Golf Course on Thursday.
The Lyncs qualified all six of their golfers to the Class 1A bidistrict tournament May 13 at Fort Lewis Golf Course. The top 21 golfers in the sub-district meet advanced to the bi-district tournament.
“Today was just kind of a slim it down day,” Lynden Christian coach Dana Hagen said in a phone interview. “We had 29 players and 21 spots so we had to narrow it down.”
Michael Vos paved the way for the Lyncs. Vos finished with a score of 84 and was the top local individual in the meet. His finish earned him ninth overall and was one stroke better than teammate Kurt Kvamme. King’s Nick Hardy won medalist honors with his score of 74.
Nathan Wendt, Dana Engles, Bill Elfo and Peter Larsen also qualified to the bi-district for Lynden Christian.
“I was really pleased with my guys, they played great,” Hagen said. “I never told them they had to play their best, they just had to play well and they did. It was a survival day.”
Meridian qualified three golfers to Tuesday’s meet. Adam Everitt finished 12th with his score of 87, teammate Joel Wiebe was one spot behind and Ty Peck filled the final qualifying spot.
Nooksack Valley Lucas Raske was the team’s top finisher with his score of 108.
The top 22 of 45 golfers at Fort Lewis will advance.
