The Lynden PRCA Rodeo announced that its "Tough Enough to Wear Pink" campaign raised $6,856 this year for the St. Joseph Hospital Cancer Center in Bellingham.
The donation will cover some expenses of local patients participating in clinical trials. The cancer center uses 100 percent of donations for patients and doesn't take any administrative fees.
"Tough Enough to Wear Pink" was created by breast cancer survivor Terry Wheatley to bring the sport of professional rodeo and the community together to rally against breast cancer. Since its inception in 2004, TETWP has empowered rodeos and western events in North America to focus attention on the need for a cure. The campaign has raised more than $5 million for breast cancer charities.
Contestants in the fifth-annual Lynden PRCA Rodeo wore pink shirts during competition to raise awareness of breast cancer while local rodeo volunteers conducted fundraisers for the St. Joseph Hospital Cancer Center.
The 2010 Lynden PRCA Rodeo is scheduled Aug. 27-28. For more information, visit lyndenrodeo.com or call 354-4111.
