PREP CROSS COUNTRY: Sehome's Carlyle, Moore repeat at conference MVPs

For the second straight year, Sehome swept the boys' and girls' MVP selections on the All-Northwest Conference team, which was released on Tuesday, Nov. 17.

Class 2A state champion Scott Carlyle, a junior, was selected the top boys' runner for the second straight year by the conference's coaches. Senior Annie Moore accomplished the same feat on the girls' side after she led the Mariners to their fourth consecutive team championship and was the top NWC runner in the 2A state meet with her fourth-place finish.

Moore was joined on the All-NWC first team by Sehome teammates Mimi Krieger, Jaden Duffy and Katie Delahunt, who will all be back next season.

Burlington-Edison, which won the 2A boys' team title, placed four seniors on the first team - Connor Whan, Tyler Williams, Antonio Morales and Nathan Power. They, along with Carlyle, were the only repeat first-team selections on the boys' team.

Bellingham junior Molly Leischner and Blaine sophomore Kiersten Sigfusson joined Moore and Krieger as repeat selections on the girls' first team.

Squalicum's Danny Gibson and Kole DeGolier, Ferndale's Lee George and Mount Vernon's Ethan Garrison were among the eight seniors on the boys' first team.

Junior Oliver Bear Don't Walk, who led Nooksack Valley to the program's first boys' team title with his fourth-place finish at the Class 1A state meet, was one of only three underclassmen on the boys' first team, joining Bellingham's Nick Lobb and Carlyle.

The girls' team had a bit more youth on it, as Moore and Mount Vernon senior Tessa Murray were the only seniors on the first team.

Two freshmen - Squalicum's Brittany Gappa and Burlington-Edison's Sydney Brown - debuted on the first team along with sophomores Allie Reynolds from Bellingham, Molly Rider from Squalicum, Duffy and Sigfusson,.

Whatcom Country runners making the boys' second team were Bellingham's Andrew Ryder, Lynden Christian's Jacob Hollander Squalicum's Patrick Gibson, Mount Baker's Connor Williams and Sehome's Eric Schneider, Kyle Szegedi and Nate Wilson.

Making the girls' second team were Sehome's Natalie Anderson, Nooksack Valley's Bailey DeBruin, Meridian's Jayna Edmonds, Lynden's Hannah VanZanten, Ferndale's Megan Morrison and Bellingham's Kelsey Thomas and Clara Reid.
