Western Washington University had 30 attack errors, one short of its season high, and hit just .099 as it fell to Central Washington University, 11-25, 25-21, 25-15, 21-25, 15-11, on Saturday in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference match in Ellensburg.
The Vikings dropped to 16-10 overall with their third loss in four matches and are third in the GNAC standings at 9-6. They have dropped three five-set matches since defeating Cal State L.A., 3-2, on Aug. 29.
Central Washington improved to 14-10 overall, winning for the eighth time in 10 home matches, and is 6-7 in league play. The Wildcats were swept by Western at Bellingham on Oct. 3.
The Vikings also had five receiving errors, two blocking errors and three ball-handling errors.
"If you're going to make that many errors, you're not going to make the other team have to work for a win," Western coach Diane Flick said in a press release. "And the fact is that we made way too many errors."
Outside hitter Marlayna Geary posted her 12th double-double in leading Western with a match-high 18 kills and 14 digs.
Kathryn Mertens had a match-high nine blocks and Emily Jepsen added seven as the Vikings had a 17-8 advantage in that statistical category.
Western libero Allison Gotz had a match-high 26 digs and outside hitter Jordyn Bailey added 19 digs.
