Bellingham's Rick Weihe shot a 77-74-77-228 over three days of play at the WSGA Senior Amateur Championship from Sept. 29 to Oct. 1 at the Wenatchee Golf and Country Club to finish third.
Fred Urquhart shot a 78-76-75-229 to finish fifth, Jon Rawitzer tied for 40th with a 81-89-89-259 and Bill Hager tied for 51st with a 88-87-93-268. All are from Bellingham. Seattle's Larry Daniels won the event with a 81-70-71-222.
In the Super Senior Amateur tournament, Bellingham's Ted King shot a 82-81-85-248 to finish 10th and Ben Denson, also from Bellingham, shot a 88-86-87-261 to finish 19th. Bruce Richard of Seattle shot a 75-75-81-231 to take first place.
BUTSCHLI WINS WHATCOM SENIOR TOURNAMENT
Michael Butschli of Birch Bay Village Golf Course won the 2009 Whatcom Seniors tournament Monday, Oct. 5, at Semiahmoo Golf & Country Club in Blaine with a low net score of 62.
In Flight A, Jim Toomey of Birch Bay was 1st low gross with a 74 and Ross Molberg of North Bellingham was low net with a 63.

CHUCKANUT LOSES TO PACIFIC ROVERS
The Chuckanut Bay rugby team lost 43-22 to the Pacific Rovers this weekend.
In the first half, the Geoducks had a try scored by Locan Tafa, who had two on the day, with the conversion made by Brian Hargrove, his first of two. Just before halftime the Geoducks also made a placed kick for an extra three points. The halftime score was 14-10 Pacific.
Going into the second half, the Rovers scored on some early tries, holding the lead and preventing the Geoducks from scoring until the last five minutes. The final Chuckanut conversion kick was made by Brian Hargrove.
Chuckanut plays at Valley this weekend.
REGULATORS LOOKING FOR BASKETBALL PLAYERS
The Bellingham Regulators AAU Basketball Program will have tryouts on Oct. 21 and 22 at Bellingham High School.
Fifth and 6th grade boys are from 6 to 7:30 p.m. both days and 7th and 8th grade boys are from 7:30 to 9 p.m.

HOUTCHENS MAKES HOLE IN ONE
Don Houtchens, a Sudden Valley Golf & Country Club member, made his first ever hole in one at the course on Saturday, Oct. 3.
Houtchens used a 6-iron on the par 3, 148 yard No. 16 hole.
SEEKING BASKETBALL PLAYERS
The PSA for Camp Fire and the Harlem Ambassadors are seeking players who are 19-years-old or older - not college players or people who have college eligibility for a scholarship - to participate in a fundraising basketball game at 7 p.m. on Nov. 5 at Bellingham High School.
The group is hoping to find community members/leaders with some athletic ability, who do not mind having a great time in the comedy routine.
