Seattle indie band Siberian brings together members from across the country, Hawaii to Maryland. But the five guys have come together in true musical fashion, as friends who enjoy playing music and began doing so together.

Guitarist Colin Wolberg and vocalist and guitarist Finn Parnell began collaborating in Wolberg’s basement in 2004 with no immediate plans to form an official band.

“It wasn’t until after we recorded a demo that was somehow circulated throughout Seattle and found its way onto the radio that we decided to become more of a band with regular members,” Parnell said.

Other members of the band are vocalist and bassist Zach Tillman, drummer Aaron Benson and vocalist and keyboardist Adam Galbraith.

With only two releases — “With Me,” the band’s first full-length album, and “Hey Celestial!” EP — both re-leased in 2007, Siberian offers quality music that makes it sound like the band has been at it for years. The band’s smooth vocals, solid songwriting and obvious talent make Siberian a strong addition to the Seattle indie music scene.

Siberian members are versatile music listeners, with influences from Neil Young to Charles Mingus to Yes.

The band has plans to play some shows along the West Coast in February and March, then in Texas in April. The band has been playing shows around the Seattle area for a while now, performing at last year’s Bumbershoot Festival and Capitol Hill Block Party.

When asked about the band’s name, Parnell said it came from a James Baldwin quote in which the word created imagery Parnell loved. And “Siberian” is also part of a Yes song, which Parnell also likes.
