Local independent record label Murder Mountain Records celebrated its third anniversary on New Year’s Day. The label was started by Bug Jerome in an effort to help local artists get their music out there, by offering recording, distributing and promoting to local musicians. Since recently merging with LFM Productions and manager Ian Imhof, Murder Mountain has even more driving force behind it.

The label keeps things simple: Everything is done in house, from recording to pressing the releases. The staff consists of Imhof, 19, and Jerome, 22, with occasional help from others. Currently, the label is working with several active Bellingham-area artists, including The Mission Orange, David Strey Ney Orchestra, Thea Rosenburg, Armonikos and Jerome’s solo project. Murder Mountain also allows local musicians to use the label’s resources and record at the studio without necessarily being on the label.

As for recent Murder Mountain band news, The Mission Orange is releasing its first full-length album, “Seasick,” on Jan. 22. The duo will kick off a two-week West Coast tour with a show Jan. 18 at The Old Foundry, 100 E. Maple St., with bands The Lonely Forest and Karate Kitchen.
