Look to Seattle funk band Flowmotion to get you in meltdown, er, make that countdown mode for the new year. Flowmotion is known in Western Washington for the Summer Meltdown festival that the band has run since its inception. The seventh annual Meltdown drew crowds numbering in the thousands.

Singer-songwriter Josh Clauson leads the group with guitar and vocals and is also responsible for writing much of 2005’s “Is That Right.” Supporting him on backup vocals is Scott Goodwin, who performs double-duty with drums; Sabu Miyata is the group’ bassist; Bob Rees provides percussion and vibes; and finally RL Heyer plays rhythm and lap steel guitar, as well as serving as back-up vocalist. Flowmotion has shared the stage with Michael Franti & Spearhead, Widespread Panic and Steve Kimrock Band, among others.

The group’s fan base extends along the West Coast and Alaska, and they tour an average of 120 days a year to keep that base satisfied. Consider them the perfect pre-funk to get you in party mood for New Year’s Eve festivities.

They’re performing Sunday at the Wild Buffalo. Advance tickets are available from www.wildbuffalo.net for $10; day of show tickets are $12. To join the band’s mailing list, or to learn more about them, check out www.flowmotion.net.
