The genuine Russian accents might be the first thing that catches your attention about the Red Elvises, but it’s far from their only selling point. While shimmying your shoulders to their songs, a line or two of their lyrics begin to work their way into your comprehension … and if you don’t crack a grin, you should probably check your pulse.

After playing together in Russian folk band Limpopo, singer/songwriter Igor Yuzov and bass balalaika playing Oleg Bernov first formed the Red Elvises in 1995. Though other members have changed over the years, the current lineup includes Adam Gust on drums, Elena Shemankova on keyboards, and guitarist/vocalist Beth Garner. Over the dozen years of playing Russian-indie-surf rock, they’ve released 10 albums, and have also been featured in the movie “Six String Samurai” and on an episode of TV’s old “Melrose Place.” Their sense of humor definitely goes hand in hand with their tunes, and they are eager to see their comrades at their “rokenrol” revolution!

You can listen to the L.A.-based Red Elvises at www.myspace.com/redelvises or www.redelvises.com.

The show starts at 9 p.m. Saturday at the Wild Buffalo, 208 W. Holly St. Local surf-rock band The AllNighters opens. Tickets are $10 in advance; $12 at the door. Tickets can be purchased online at www.wildbuffalo.net.
