Seattle activates, then options Rowland-Smith

The Seattle Mariners activated pitcher Ryan Rowland-Smith from the 15-day disabled list on Tuesday and optioned him to Triple-A Tacoma.

Rowland-Smith was originally placed on the DL on April 15, retroactive to April 11, with triceps tendonitis. He made just one start with Seattle this season on April 10 versus Oakland and lasted 3 1/3 innings, allowing a pair of unearned runs while walking four.

The left-hander made five rehab starts with Tacoma prior to his activation, posting a 1-3 record and 6.92 earned-run average.

The third-year pro split time between the pen and roation in 2008, going 5-3 with a 3.42 ERA in 47 games, 12 of those starts for the M's. He also earned two saves, struck out 77 and walked 48 in 118 1/3 innings.
