Canucks, Rypien agree to two-year extension

The Vancouver Canucks and center Rick Rypien agreed to a two-year contract extension on Wednesday.

"Rick plays with intensity and energy every time he steps on the ice," said team general manager Mike Gillis. "He is an important part of our team and a valued teammate."

The 25-year-old Rypien has registered five goals and two assists in 41 career games with the Canucks, who signed the Coleman, Alberta native as a free agent on November 9, 2005.
