Status of Pfizer and Wyeth research facilities

Pfizer Inc., which just acquired fellow drugmaker Wyeth, is closing six of the two companies' research sites and keeping open 14 others. Two Cambridge, Mass., sites will operate as one. Following is a list of the sites:

Former Wyeth sites staying open/Types of future research:

- Collegeville, Pa. - some vaccine research continuing, but most other research moving out

- Pearl River, N.Y. - vaccines, biotech drugs and traditional medicines

- Andover, Mass. - biotech drugs

- Cambridge, Mass. - vaccines, biotech drugs and traditional medicines

- Aberdeen, Scotland - biotech drugs

- Montreal - various R&D

Pfizer sites staying open/Types of future research:

- La Jolla, Calif. - vaccines, biotech drugs and traditional medicines

- San Francisco - antibody-based biotech drugs

- Groton, Conn. - vaccines, biotech drugs and traditional medicines

- St. Louis, Mo. - biotech drugs, but with sharply reduced staff

- Sandwich, U.K. - vaccines, biotech drugs and traditional medicines

- Shanghai, China - various R&D

- Cambridge, U.K. - regenerative medicine (repairing damaged tissue)

- Cambridge, Mass. - various R&D

- Dusseldorf, Germany - various R&D

Sites Being Closed (all Wyeth facilities):

- Plattsburgh/Rouses Point, N.Y.

- Gosport, U.K.

- Research Triangle Park, N.C.
