The Bellingham Herald's editorial board

The Bellingham Herald is committed to the newspaper's onging role in providing community leadership and education about important issues for Whatcom County residents.

The Bellingham Herald's editorial board decides the paper's opinion about important local, state and national issues.

The board has three permanent members — the publisher, executive editor and opinion page editor. The board also has as many as three members serving in rotating positions, two for community members and one for a staff person from a non-news department of the business. Citizens and staff members serving in the rotating positions serve for four-month terms. The terms are March-June, July-October and November-February. Citizens interested in serving on the board should contact the Opinion Page Editor Scott Ayers at scott.ayers@bellinghamherald.com.

The board meets weekly for 90 minutes to discuss issues and formulate opinions. Many meetings also include community leaders and other guests who come to the board to talk about issues. The board also occasionally takes tours of local businesses and facilities to learn more about their operations and contributions to the Whatcom County community.

The discussions and opinions of the board are separate from the newsgathering and reporting functions of the newspaper.

If you have any further questions about the board, contact Opinion Page Editor Scott Ayers at scott.ayers@bellinghamherald.com.
