The Bellingham HeraldSeptember 3, 2014

— With thunderclaps in the evening and heavy downpours for much of the day, Bellingham had its wettest Sept. 2 on record, according to the National Weather Service.

Bellingham broke its rainfall record Tuesday, with 0.58 inch of rain measured at Bellingham International Airport. The previous record of 0.39 inch was set in 1977.

The wet weather was expected to clear up Wednesday, with at least one more summery weekend in the forecast. Sunny skies and highs in the 70s are expected through Sunday.

“We had our taste of fall here for a couple days,” meteorologist Art Gaebel said.
