Whatcom Museum exhibits movie-poster art, with Pickford to show related films

Westerns. Film noir. Science fiction. Some of the best-loved genres from Hollywood's studio era produced the greatest poster art, with mostly anonymous artists and designers promoting films they had never seen.

"The Art of Genre: Posters from Hollywood's Golden Age," an exhibit of original artwork, will be on display Saturday, July 19, through Oct. 12 at Whatcom Museum's Lightcatcher, 250 Flora St. and at the museum's Old City Hall, 121 Prospect St.

In conjunction with the exhibit, Pickford Film Center presents a summer of studio-era films, corresponding to artwork at the museum venues. The exhibit is guest-curated by Michael Falter, program director at Pickford.
