Post 7 cruises to championship contest before falling

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDJuly 13, 2014

Bellingham Post 7 won five straight games after a lackluster start to face off against Big League Edge in the showcase tournament on Sunday, July 13.

Post 7 fell in the championship game 3-0, letting in all three runs in the first inning.

"They turned it around (after Thursday's 6-0 loss)," coach Steve Slesk said in a phone interview. "We had great pitching all weekend long. We had some clutch hits. ... The kids showed well. They didn't back down from anyone."

Sunday's contests also saw Post 7 winning two games by scores of 4-2 and 3-0 before the championship.

The team got a 4-2 win in pool play and a 1-0 win in the beginning of knockout rounds on Saturday also.

Post 7 finishes its league season on Tuesday, July 15, with a doubleheader against Bellevue at Sehome High School. If it wins one of the two, Post 7 will win the league championship and earn the right to host the regional tournament.
