Bellingham motorcyclist hurt in crash with deer near Winthrop

WINTHROP - A Bellingham motorcyclist was injured Saturday, July 12, when he struck a deer on the North Cascades Highway near Winthrop.

A Washington State Patrol report said Steven H. Tatom, 55, of Bellingham, had just finished passing a vehicle and had returned to his own lane on westbound Highway 20 near milepost 194 when the collision occurred. Tatom was taken by ambulance to Mid Valley Hospital in Omak, where he was treated and released Saturday.

Troopers blamed the wreck on the deer and said Tatom would not be ticketed.
