Bells win 8-7, sweep Kelowna on road

The Bellingham Bells scored four runs in the second innings and four more in the fifth and held on late to earn an 8-7 win and a three-game sweep of the Kelowna Falcons in a West Coast League game Saturday, July 12, in Kelowna.

Dallas Carroll led the Bells with three hits. He hit a double, triple, drove in four and scored two twice. Scott Heath, Danny Miller, Walker Olis and Chris Baker each had multi-hit efforts, contributing to the Bells' 14-hit night.

Bellingham's Dan Ludwig earned the win in relief of starter Gabe Cramer, who lasted 5 2/3 innings, giving up seven runs on eight hits while striking out and walking seven batters. Closer David Bigelow entered the ninth, picking up his sixth save.

Kelowna led 5-4 after four innings, but Bellingham's four-run fifth gave the Bells a comfortable buffer.

Bellingham (23-6) increased its West Division lead to 10.5 games over the Victoria HarbourCats. The Bells have a day off before returning home to open a three-game set against Victoria starting with a 7:05 p.m. game Monday, July 14, at Joe Martin Field.
