Post 7 falls 6-1 in Centralia tournament

THE BELLINGHAM HERALDJuly 10, 2014

The American Legion Post 7 baseball club couldn't get its bats going and took a 6-1 loss to Capital City Select of Oregon during the Centralia Showcase Tournament on Thursday, July 10, in Centralia.

Post 7 tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the third, but Capital City scored three in the fourth inning off starting pitcher Josh Zavisubin, who took the loss.

"We went against a good pitcher today and just didn't have great approaches at the plate," Post 7 coach Steve Slesk said in a phone interview. "They were a really good team, and if you don't bring it against a team like that, the outcome will be what it was."

Ernie Yake had two of Post 7's five hits, and Austyn Sprague, Davis Hampton and Jordan Wittenberg each recorded a hit.

Post 7 plays next at 6 p.m. Friday, July 11, in Centralia.
