Lummi High School's football team took over the Native American All-Star Classic on Saturday night, July 5, at Arlington Stadium in Dallas, Texas.
Deion Hoskins won the game MVP for his game-winning extra point in overtime, helping the Red Hawks to a 26-25 win, the side's first win in the Classic in six years over the Blue Eagles.
Logan Toby won offensive MVP. His night was highlighted by an opening-play double reverse 60-yard TD pass. Charlie Wilson and Leo Scarborough also competed in the game, which brings together the top 40 Native American athletes across the nation.
"They all played both ways," said Jamie Sluys, the coach of the Red Hawks, the Muckleshoot Athletic Director and a Lummi tribal member. "Coach Jim Sandusky (Lummi High School's football coach) prepared the kids so well. They were a major part of the gameplan."
The Red Hawks went out to a 19-6 lead before the half, but the Blue Eagles evened it up to send it to overtime.
